Happy New Year!
I would just like to take a moment to fill folks in on some of the most recent developments pertaining to the MI Sunrise Journal.
Now accepting submissions
The spring 2019 edition of the journal is now in development and submissions are being taken. The deadline is April 5th for short stories, creative non-fiction, poetry and book reviews. A printer friendly 11 x 17 2019 poster may be found under submissions on the Sunrise website.
Writers to join at the theater
This year Garrison Benson of the Rogers City Theater would like to invite all Sunrise authors to join at the theater for a public reading of works and general merriment. This is made possible as the theater is owned and operated by the Presque Isle District Library. The date is May 4th, at 7:30 PM.
A Literary award
The editors of the journal are pleased to announce an annual literary prize to be awarded in the fall. The Sunrise Shore Story Prize will take the form of a $100.00 cash prize and memento the design of which to be determined. We will be working with a regional artist to create something special. All short story entries submitted for both the spring and fall editions will be considered for the award. Details will be coming to the website soon.
An official Domestic Non-profit
The journal is now registered as a domestic non-profit with the state of Michigan. Its functioning is maintained through volunteers and private donations which allows the journal to be free for writers and readers.
The journal was brought into being to provide a safe and welcoming platform for regional writers. Should you know of a writer who may like to share their work but are reserved, please encourage them to consider submitting their writing. This effort is focused on community and inclusion and while all works may not get published, they will get a kindly reading and quality camaraderie along the way.
Thank you again for your interest and it would be my great pleasure to meet you in the coming year.
