The Northeast Michigan Council of Governments has a tag line of "East of Expected" and we could not agree more. There is a culture and history in the Northeast like no other in the state. Few can illuminate the nuance of a place like the authors and illustrators of the region. The editors of the Sunrise Journal are seeking submissions for the first edition of the Sunrise Journal. The goal is to have a collection in place by the September Book Festival celebrated in Alpena. We want to emphasize that there is no age limit on art. Authors and illustrators of all ages are welcome to submit content. Nor do we expect contributors to always be published professionals. The intent of this journal is to provide a vehicle of expression for the people of the area to share.
For writers, please include a small biography to tell people a little about yourself along with the title of your writing, the genre and a means to contact you.
For illustrators, please provide a biography or artist statement as you wish, the title of your work, and an image of your piece of no less than 300 DPI and contact information.
All contributors are welcome to include a web address should you like us to link to your web page.
The editors of the journal are just that and we cannot guarantee that all submissions will be accepted. However, should a submission be declined, never hesitate to submit material in the future. A journal is a collection of material and it just might be that a piece of writing was just not the right fit for a specific edition. The next piece might be a perfect fit.
